Release 4.0 is the official release as of 1/12/00. Version 4.09(b) has been uploaded as a beta distribution. There is one issue blocking the release of the 4.10 code, which is support for MIDI synchronisation. For a full report on bugfixes and feature implementation, see end of readme file. Release Notes 4.09 ------------------ Introduced more source code in distribution. fixes: Native ALSA drivers are operative since 4.09-2b. Known issues: Unless you have SoX available, Import/Export only works to the native song sample rate. Changing driver type from OSS to ALSA, or vice versa, will produce a single audio dev error message. SOUNDBLASTER LIVE! cards do not synchronise correctly, input stream will be slipped by up to 6k samples. Work is underway, but may take some time. Chambre reverb will produce large DC component at high feedback levels. Stereo compressor has had no testing. Filtered sidechain input gating compressor has had little/no testing. Release Notes 4.0 ----------------- fixes: It is now possible to prevent mouse movement updates to hints and drap and drop functions to reduce CPU overhead. Import routines fixed - were causing exit of application. Other minor issues. Known issues: Changing driver type from OSS to ALSA, or vice versa, will produce a single audio dev error message. Release Notes 4.0 beta 6 ------------------------ Some of the requestor menus were getting too large, and can now be scaled. VU Meter has trace background. The distributed source code has been GPLed. The Control API code is now a part of the release. Fixes: FX attachements should now work. Daemon Autotune is now optional. BuildSLab would core the GUI. Hack has been integrated. Known Issues: ALSA Drivers are not operational - you may need OSS compatablity enabled. The devDisable flag is broken, avoid using it on any configured device. "Failed to open audio device" message displayed when driver types changed. Cannot rebuild on all Linux distributions (see fixes). May never be complete. ALSA drivers appear to suffer overruns. Increased "Device Window Factor" helps. Release Notes 4.0 beta 3 ------------------------ ALSA drivers have synchronisation code integrated, IO and multihead sync. PIPO Punch points have a configurable bowtie crossfade location. Database directory is pointed to by the "SLAB_DB" environment variable. WAV and MP3 mastering have been integrated (but only nominally tested). Fixes: Creation of news songs worked, but they could not be started. Rebuild would fail due to libc dependencies (incomplete fix). Record source is saved across invocations. Known Issues: The devDisable flag is broken, avoid using it on any configured device. "Failed to open audio device" message displayed when driver types changed. Cannot rebuild on all Linux distributions (see fixes). May never be complete. ALSA drivers appear to suffer overruns. Increased "Device Window Factor" helps. Last problem may be affected by daemon autotune - remove code, will add option. Release Notes 4.0 beta 2 ------------------------ CD Mastering - audio daemon will output CD-R files, plus frontend. ALSA driver support integrated. Floating point algorithms are now extensible. Fixes: ALSA drivers no longer stutter at start of play. WaveMeter zoom pot is now painted on open. Zero Find options were enhanced for closer sample selection. PIPO offset points were corrected, they could be slightly out. Have received permission to include cdrecord in distribution (needs notes). Known Issues: The devDisable flag is broken, avoid using it on any configured device. Failed to open audio device message displayed when driver types changed. Release Notes 4.0 beta 1 ------------------------ CD Mastering - audio daemon will output CD-R files, plus frontend. ALSA driver support integrated. Floating point algorithms are now extensible. Known Issues: The ALSA drivers will tick just after a play operation. This is a sync issue and is being worked on. FIXED. The devDisable flag is broken, avoid using it on any configured device. Release Notes 3.10.2(b) ----------------------- Database directory is pointed to by the "SLAB_DB" environment variable. Release Notes 3.10.1(r) ----------------------- Introduced the multiheaded audio daemon. You need to open the global device config from the main mixSLab window, and check the "tight sync" option. See "Known Issues" section. Requires subFragment enabled. Introduced sample rate monitoring, check the View menu in studioSLab. Added a soundcard database for ease of configuration. Declick functions incorporated. Known Issues: [3.10 would fail some export operations due to use of hardlinks for some files]. Release Notes 3.20 (devel 2) ---------------------------- Introduces the control API. No other features. Known Issues: API no longer requires glibc 2.1, but relies on client interupting the GUI. This implies client and GUI must be resident on same system. Use of the glibc 2.1 will support "remote mixing" - the desk on one system and the mixing engine on another [This could also be done with 2.0, but would require a network daemon to liase between client and GUI]. All 3.10 issues apply to 3.20 [All 3.02 and 3.10 fixes are in 3.20]. Release Notes 3.10 (beta 2) --------------------------- Introduced the multiheaded audio daemon. You need to open the global device config from the main mixSLab window, and check the "tight sync" option. See "Known Issues" section. Requires subFragment enabled. Introduced sample rate monitoring, check the View menu in studioSLab. Known Issues: FX chaining with floating point algorithms still fails. Mastering Output has reported failures, but they should be fixed. The multiHead daemon has been reported as failing, but works here. Your mileage may vary. Please report problems. Release Notes 3.02 (beta 1) No new features, just a set of fixes to 3.01. Will maintain a window of a couple of weeks for problem reports, then upload an official fix. |
