The latest news about SLab and the siteHere is the latest news about the site:SITE NEWS (Apr 2003):
A call to allSince March I've switched from server housing at a dutch ISP to using ADSL at home. This has cut the cost from 160 to about 80 euro a month. I am however, still out of work and my monthly costs are more than the money I get from unemployment benefits so....If everyone (or just a lot of you) would just send me a few bucks (any amount over $3) to donations(AT)slabexchange(DOT)org using paypal it would help me meet ends. If you don't have a paypal account yet and you sign up using the link I even get $5 for referring you! I'll keep you all informed on the amount of money raised. Donations received so far: 6Thank you:
You can use the button below if you also want to make a donation. When I once again have a job that pays my bills this won't be needed anymore, but until then, please bear with me.
FTP issuesThere seem to be a lot of people who have problems with FTP download since switching to ADSL, so I've added an HTTP download link on the download page. At least until I can solve this FTP issue. I have an idea on how to fix it, but it's going to take some time before that's done.
Anyone who wants to run a banner ad campaign, please click here. Is there some artist among you who can make the menu buttons (on the left)
look a lot cooler. I think they're a little dull myself, but do I
look like a graphics artist? If you find some of the site's texts to be lame/incorrect/otherwise unsatisfying, you can use the same recipe as above. Here is the latest news about SLab:
Latest Software Developments
----------------------------
-
There has not been a great deal of devlopment of SLab over the past few
months. Work, however, has been ongoing to design a new GUI which will
replace the now rather dated TCL/TK interface. The new GUI API is called
brighton, and it currently works with another audio engine called bristol
to emulate some classic synths. These can be found in the download directory.
if you are interested in trying out the new GUI and software the application
currently emulates a couple of hammonds, a couple of moogs, a prophet5, juno-6
and DX7.
-
SLab 4.09-13b is still the current release of SLab. Another bugfix upload is
expected over the next few weeks. There is unlikely to be a major release
until the brighton GUI is integrated.
-
The build has so far been tested on
-
RedHat 6.2, 7.0 and 7.1 (care of Nico)
SuSE 6.4 and 7.0
SlackWare 7.0
Debian X.Y
-
This should help with the SuSE compatability issues. Feedback on
these build routines would be appreciated. The mileage will vary,
since each different version of Linux poses different issues
regarding portability, not just related to library releases but also
availability of header files for recompilation.
-
A few new effects have been integrated:
-
Tremelo and vibrato, for anybody who wants cheesy old effects.
Autopanner - also a bit on the cheesy side.
Automated track splicing routines.
BlueValve has been given a pentode emulator (Lyons algorithm).
-
ALSA drivers, release 0.4.X and 0.5.X, are supported. the 0.9 beta stream
is not operational at the moment. If you have these drivers you will need
to use OSS compatability drivers on top of your card drivers.
-
4.09 software is currently only available for Linux (glibc).
-
Release -11b includes some improvements on the rebuild operations, care
of Nico Augustijn, plus a potential resolution for some issues with tk
library releases.
-
Known Problems
--------------
-
There is a list of about 15 bugs that need to go into the next upload.
-
There are other more minor issues of course.
